Lots of love from Finland - my sister first introduced me to the band and David's hauntingly beautiful voice really struck to me around 2010s. His talent is missed by many and my deepest condolences to the family, his character and intelligence is missed.

Woods was a band that had a huge and very bright future in the Metal Music Industry. Kiss My Ashes Goodbye was the first song I heard and I was immediately hooked. David and his band had a unique sound unlike any other. A talented and skilled artist that we lost far too soon. Rest In Peace David Gold, I would have looked forward to seeing you and your band live. Keep on rocking up in the clouds legend.

Still missing you after 3 years. Today marks the 3 years to the day when the rest of us found out the news. I still remember where I was, and how I was told. I can’t say I feel much differently this time of year, or anytime I listen to Woods, despite the time that has passed. He still lives through his music. And as long as that exists, so will he. I’ve been cranking Woods hard the past few days. It’s a bittersweet experience, of course, but still an experience I enjoy. It makes me remember how important David’s music was and still is to me and how much David impacted this young man from mid-Michigan’s life in a way he probably never knew. I hope he knew. I’ll never forget the times chatting with him on the forum or MSN messenger (when that was a thing!). I’ll never forget Woods II in the mail and being so pumped not only for the album but because he included a handwritten personal note of thanks! Haha. Good times. May he know peace now, and forever. RIP David.

My name is Jess and I live in Calgary, AB. I first met David in 2008 when his band played a concert here. I immediately LOVED his music! I had my friend introduce me to him so I could give him my business card because I promote metal shows. Not long after that, we began talking to set up another show in Calgary for WOY. WOY ended up playing my shows 3 years in a row. 2009, 2010 and the last one in May 2011. I not only worked with David in a music scene sense, but considered him a friend. I will be forever changed because of his friendship and the music he introduced me to and has left behind. I have never met a more dedicated and hard working musician in my life. I will always remember his love of music.

My name is Ryan Grant and I live in Nova Scotia. I don't have a memory or story about meeting David or seeing him perform. I only discovered Woods of Ypres this past spring when I first heard Woods IV: The Green Album, which completely floored me. I honestly believe it is a record that will be talked about for many years to come and will be looked at as a true classic.
Unfortunately it was literally days after the band played in Halifax this past March that I first heard the band. Even after only listening to the Green Album those first few times I immediately was disappointed that I missed their show. I spoke to David online and he told me they would be back again in the new year. I could not wait to see the songs I now love so much played live. I also wanted to make sure the band knew there was another person who truly appreciated what they did and saw one more face in the crowd the next time they came back. I'm really sad that never happened.
If there is anything else I can share with you, it's that you should know David's music made a difference in my life. To put it simply, it just made me really happy brought a smile to my face. I loved being blown away by what I was hearing come through my speakers and picking up on the small nuances of David's lyrics. There was lots he wrote about that I never experienced firsthand. But he had a way with words that made me relate to those experiences and stories even without that firsthand experience. There was nothing I loved more than spending a couple hours riding my mountain bike deep into the forest with all of the Woods of Ypres albums on shuffle. The first trip I take this spring will be while listening to Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light.

My name is Joseph Madrid. I knew your brother as well as one could without living close to him. I live in new mexico. My group of close friends and i love Wood's of Ypres. We had listened to them for awhile when we discovered they were playing in Mesa,AZ about an 8 hour drive from where we lived. We decided to all go and see them play live. What an amazing concert...David was already a Hero and Role-model to just about everyone in our group...None of us would have believed that when we met him he would be so down to earth and we would actually get the chance to hang out with him. We shared a dinner of burgers together and talked a good bit about music and such. Then the most wonderful thing happened. We talked them into coming back to our home town to spend the fourth of july together! That is one memory i will never forget. We all sat around and talked and talked. The next year we went to go see them in albaqurque but were denied enterence cause it was a 21 and older bar and they did not want to except our id's cause they ran up and down and not across. We still hung outside the window and jammed to the concert in the middle of the street. Nothing would stop us from seeing our favorite band! Afterword's we went and ate together again at Denny's and hung out one last time. I used to talk to David quite a bit on facebook and he used to give me the world's best advice and he has helped me grow up into the person i am today. I would not be who i am now if it was not for your brother. I am still crying off and on and i can't believe he is gone. I pray that you and yours are doing alright cause if he had this much effect on someone a thousend miles away i can only imagine what he meant to all of you guys. I will always be thankful for all your brother did for me and for my friends. I will always be missing him and thankful for his music that stopped me from doing so many stupid things to myself. He helped me grow and see the world in a new light and to help spur me to be better then what i actually am. Tell him thank you for me one last time please. It would really mean alot to me. He was an amazing man...And he always will be.
With a big heart filled with lot's of love and sorrow,
Joseph. R. Madrid.

I had the honor of meeting David in the fall of 2010, when he came to Kuwait to teach at a local school. From the get-go he was very genuine and approachable. Through his stay in Kuwait up until December 2010, we hung out a lot, he became one of my day-to-day buddies that. We listened to Woods of Ypres in the car, spoke about our bands touring together, and even talked about doing a Rammstein-inspired collaboration album with a Middle Eastern feel (We jokingly named this project Sandstein). David was a great person, a true talent, and a great friend. May his soul rest in peace. Mr. Gold, you will be missed buddy!

This is the one and only time I saw Woods of Ypres play. It was at Coconut Grove in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I booked the entire weekend off work for this show and it was worth it. Woods was the last band to play, and it was an hour long set. I moshed, I thrashed, I screamed along to every word of every song. When it was over I went up and shook David's hand and thanked him for coming to our city to play. He said it was a pleasure to be there and smiled, and he mentioned that if he forgot any lyrics, he noticed I continued to sing without missing a word. That kind of thoughtfullness and notice of such a small detail is nigh unheard of in the metal world, and being able to speak with him face to face for just those few minutes was an event I will never forget. I've continued to speak to David on Facebook and via email for quite some time, and his insights on things have this ability to always help me make the right decision. I will forever miss him.
