Obituary of Maria Bettello

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peacefully, in her 97th year, it is with heavy hearts that the family of Maria (Franceschini) Bettello mourns her passing at the F.J. Davey Home on Tuesday, June 2, 2021. Predeceased in 2012, by her husband of 62 years, Luigi. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Franca Marks and her husband, Greg, John Bettello and his wife, Phyllis. Adored Nonna of Allison Hallam (Gary), Danielle Marks (Jean–Pierre), Andrea Tsoulogiannis (Peter) and Mark Bettello (Caitlin).  Cherished Bis-Nonna of Lucas and Milena Hallam, Margot and Amélie Galipeault, and Penelope Tsoulogiannis.  She is survived by her sister, Norma (Franceschini) Pozzebon of Asti, Italy along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her 5 sisters and 6 brothers.

Maria was born in 1924 in Cusignana, Veneto, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1955. She loved gardening, cooking for her family, making popcorn and playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren, playing cards and especially enjoyed winning against Greg. Her family will also miss Maria’s quips and wisdom, affectionately dubbed “Nonna-isms” and her desire to always be the last person to leave a party.  A resident of Gravelle Street for 60 years, she became lifelong friends with her neighbours and was grateful for their support and affection.
